How effective is External Management?
External management of all networks, large and small can be extremely effective. In some cases, an on-site IT employee is not required to ensure the continuation of services, or the resolution of problems. Larger networks can require additional technical staff to be employed full-time, but these staff provides a point for technical resolution only. The result of this is objective planning and direction of IT services, and access to professional and trained IT technicians, without the inherent costs of in-house training.
Is External Management Financially Feasible?

We have based this scenario on a business with 30 PC’s and 2 Microsoft Servers. The comparison is based on the alternative being a full-time IT staff member with equivalent MCSE qualifications being payed approximately $60,000 per annum.
As shown below, the average yearly support cost of external IT management is comparable to the annual wage of a junior IT support specialist, and much lower than that of a more qualified support specialist. In addition, there are no overheads for training and product research for employed staff. Of course, this does not include any additional cost such as major upgrades or disaster recovery. However, over the long term, such expenses are offset by the saving in support costs.
